FAQs

What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment?
IPL systems work on the same principles as laser systems in that they deliver light energy which is absorbed into particular target cells with colour (chromophores) within the skin. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which then destroys the targeted cells and stimulates the body’s natural healing response to create new collagen.

How is Lumecca different to other IPL systems?
IPL systems have been widely used for many years but have an inconsistent reputation. Lumecca has changed all that. Lumecca is a third generation IPL system that has in-built cooling technology to make the treatment comfortable and safe. Lumecca is also exceptional because it enables us to block out lower and higher wavelengths to create a treatment that’s closer to a laser treatment and gives quicker, more consistent results.

Lumecca is ideal for photorejuvenation treatments – in other words, improving the appearance of problems caused by sun damage such as brown spots, red spots and spider veins. The system offers short and longer pulse options, as well as regular or strong cooling, the latter of which is ideal if you have a darker skin tone.

How many treatments will I need?
With Lumecca, you may need just one or two treatments to boost your collagen production, shrink your pores, and remove areas of sun damage. Previous IPL devices typically required four to five treatments to achieve the same results. Of course, every person is different, so we will discuss the number of treatments we think you will need at your initial consultation.

Can Lumecca be used with other procedures?
Lumecca is ideal for use in conjunction with Forma skin tightening or Fractora skin resurfacing treatments.

I have melasma and pigmentation problems. What are my treatment options?
As discussed above, IPL treatment is ideal for addressing issues within the skin associated with melasma – patchy brown discolouration of the skin – and pigmentation. Chemical peels are also an excellent treatment choice for melasma and pigmentation with different depth and type peels offering different benefits, depending on your individual needs.

How much does Intense Pulsed Light treatment with Lumecca cost?
The cost of your treatment will depend on the area to be treated. As a rough guide, you can find our full treatment and price list here. We will always give you an itemised breakdown of your treatment plan so that you can be confident that there are no hidden costs.
