Calf Reduction

Calf reduction

If you are unhappy with the size of your calves, we offer calf reduction using a combination of techniques suited to your particular problem.  Stubborn fatty deposits can be reduced suing radio frequency, aqualyx or liposuction, whereas muscular hypertrophy (over developed muscle) can be reduced using botox. You might want to consider this treatment if your calves are:

  • Too bulky
  • Flabby
  • Not symmetrical in outline,
  • If you struggle to get boots to zip up.

For some people, unwanted fat can be a real problem in the calves. For others, the calves are too muscly. Muscular hypertrophy is common in those who exercise a lot. Excercises that aggravate muscular hypertrophy in the calves are cycling, tennis and exercises that involve standing on tip toes (with or without weights). For the same reason, wearing high heals can also over stimulate the Gastrocnemius muscles of the calves.

Treatment options

Botox

Botox calf reduction for muscular hypertrophy is a quick simple procedure that consists of multiple injections of botox to the calf, reducing muscle activity and causing it to shrink. Botox or botulinum type A is injected directly into muscles where it restricts muscle activity. Botox has been used as a medical treatment and as a cosmetic treatment for decades. Cosmetically, it is typically used for frown lines on the face. Calf reduction works in the same way but on a larger scale.

In a calf reduction treatment, botox is used to selectively deactivate muscles in the calves. Once these muscles are inactive, they will gradually become smoother with less definition. This procedure does not restrict calf function, and all regular activities can be maintained.
